This half term, researchers from Oxford’s Experimental Psychology Department are running a week of activities. From Tuesday to Thursday, parents can book a morning (9.30 - 12.30) or an afternoon (1.30 - 4.30) slot to bring their child along to take part in interactive activities.
Some of these interactive activities are real developmental psychology experiments. Researchers from OSCCI (Oxford Study of Children’s Communication Impairments), ABCD (Attention, Brain and Cognitive Development) and LCD (Language and Cognitive Development) are interested in the development of children’s language and cognitive abilities, and are hoping to use the data collected from the week to answer real scientific questions. For more details about the investigations involved in Oxford Science Adventures, please see our "Projects involved in OSA" page.
Booking is essential - please book your place before Friday 27th May 2016. Places are allocated on a first-come first-served basis, and may fill up fast! When families arrive, the parent/guardian of the child will spend a little time reading through information sheets about the experiments being run. Signing the relevant consent forms will allow us to use the data collected from the sessions for research. Children will then rotate round a variety of different activities. Some of these activities will involve one-to-one games with an experimenter. These tap their language or cognitive skills. Other activities will involve craft, and active games, including Brain Poems and games that teach children about how information is transported around the brain. Parents must stay in the department for the duration of the session - we will have tea and coffee on hand and you can relax while we entertain your children. Parents may also be asked to complete some short questionnaires on their child's development.
